We have two beautiful French antique jewellery boxes on our website, both dating to the reign of Napoleon III. They both have exotic Amboyna Burl wood veneers which have stunning figuration and warm reddish brown tones. This beautiful exotic wood was used by French cabinet and box makers, because of its beautiful appearance. The name of this wood derived from Amboyna Island, one of the regions where the tree can found. The tree and wood is sometimes referred to as 'Narra' but in Burl form is known as Amboyna. The wood is from the Pterocarpus Indicus genus. Please see our Jewellery Boxes page for our French antique boxes with Amboyna veneers.
