Beautiful Italian marquetry inlaid jewellery box. Made in Southern Italy in the 1970s. The interior compartment has a new padded cotton panel that provides cushioned protection for jewellery.

This is a beautiful marquetry inlaid jewellery box from Sorrento in Southern Italy. It dates to the 1970s and is in lovely condition.
The Exterior
This box has lovely Mahogany veneer and beautiful marquetry inlay to the lid. The inlay is made from several varieties of wood and features beautiful flowers and leaves.
The box is nicely finished with Satinwood stringing, to both the lid and all four sides of the box. There is a beautiful inlaid frame around the edges of the lid.
The exterior has a polished and varnished finish which has given it a lovely glossy sheen. The varnish protects the veneer and inlay.
The box is complete with its original piano hinge. This is a quality stop hinge that holds the lid upright.
The box has a very secure tight-fitting lid.
The bottom of the box has Satinwood veneer and has retained its original MADE IN ITALY label.
The Interior
The interior has beautiful Satinwood veneer. The inside of the lid and walls of the compartment have a polished and varnished finish.
The base of the storage compartment has been newly lined with a padded cotton fabric panel. We chose a beautiful chocolate brown shade of cotton to complement the dark Mahogany veneer. The padding provides cushioned protection for jewellery.
Condition
This box is still in very nice condition despite its 40 plus years of age. It has sound structure and only minor light wear, commensurate with age and honest use. There are some light surface scratches on the bottom of the box.
