Superb antique highly figured Walnut jewellery box. Late Victorian, circa 1880. Partially refurbished interior with both new and original silk and satin linings. Working lock and key.

This is a superb high-quality antique jewellery box with a highly figured Walnut veneer. It has a beautiful partially refurbished interior with a lovely mix of both new and original silk and satin linings. The box dates to the late Victorian period, circa 1880.
The Exterior
This box has a fabulous Walnut veneer which has striking figuration!
There is a beautiful solid brass plate to the lid with an inset swing handle, plus a solid brass escutcheon to the keyhole. Both of these are original. The box also has its original brass stop hinges which hold the lid upright.
The Walnut has a wonderful rich colour and a beautiful high polished finish. It has a lovely sheen and tactile smoothness.
The bottom of the box has a new felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The Interior
The interior has its original storage tray at the top which has five compartments and two ring storage sections. Beneath this is a further, larger single compartment.
The compartments in the tray have new padded satin panels. These are various shapes and sizes. The smallest compartments are ideal sizes for the safe storage of earrings, small pendant and brooches. The larger centre compartment is an ideal size for narrow bangles and bracelets. The ring storage sections are covered with the same satin and the tray's exterior has its original thin black leather covering.
The larger compartment beneath the tray has a new padded satin panel in the base and new quality paper linings to the walls. This compartment is fairly deep and spacious. It is roomy enough for broader bangles, watches and beads.
The inside of the lid has its original, very beautiful, deeply padded and quilted silk panel. This has pretty gold silk buttoning. The interior walls surrounding this panel have the same new quality paper linings as those in the lower compartment.

Condition
This wonderful box is in superb condition. It has sound structure and no nasty cracks or scratches. There is very little wear to the Walnut veneer.
The new interior satin linings are in immaculate clean unused condition. The same applies to the new felt on the bottom of the box.
The original quilted silk panel inside the lid has a small area of staining and wear. This is not overly noticeable and the majority of the silk is still in excellent condition.
There is minor light wear to the storage tray's exterior.
The hinges are still in excellent working order and the box still locks securely.

We are not responsible for locks that may malfunction from further age and use once boxes are purchased. Please ensure the lock is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.
