FREE UK NEXT DAY DELIVERY. We Ship Worldwide.
This is a charming small antique jewellery box that was made in the Black Forest region. It dates to the early 20th century, circa 1900-1910. It has beautiful ornate hand-carved decoration and is complete with its original linings and working lock.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid Walnut and has a beautiful oval shape.
There is a beautiful domed panel to the centre of the lid and upon this is a stunning hand-carved crested bird, perched upon a nest containing a solitary egg. There are fine hand-carved details to both the bird and its nest plus beautiful raised/carved leaves around the entire box.
The box stands raised on very ornate, hand-carved Flemish Scroll style legs. This style of leg was developed in the second half of the 17th century and can be seen on late Baroque furniture. They are also known as double scroll legs or S scroll legs and they were notably used by Gerrit Jensen (the most important figure in English cabinet making) who made pieces of furniture for King Charles II.
The box has its original polished brass hinges and its original brass working lock. A lovely period replacement key has been fitted to the lock.
Printed details on the history of carved Black Forest boxes will be sent along with the box.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment. The compartment and the inside of the lid have their original stunning deep blue velvet linings which are beautifully framed with lighter blue cord trim.

We are not responsible for locks that malfunction from further age and use once boxes are purchased. Please ensure the lock is working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.
