Beautiful 1940s vintage jewellery box from Bellagio, Italy. Beautiful marquetry and micro mosaic inlay. Original velvet lined interior. Novel book form.

This is a beautiful small vintage jewellery box, made in Bellagio, Italy. It dates to the 1940s and has its original linings.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid Olivewood and is in the novel form of a volume of books. There is a book horizontally placed at the top (which is the lid), and a volume of upright books beneath (the body of the box). The volumes are numbered 1-5 in hand-painted Roman Numerals.
The lid has beautiful marquetry inlaid Italian figures; a dancing male and female in traditional Italian costume. This lovely scene is surrounded by a frame of beautiful micro mosaic inlay.
The box is complete with its original brass hinges, lock and catch.
Please note: The lock is no longer functional. Its keyhole is located behind the central 'spine' (volume 3). The spine once moved downwards to reveal the keyhole but has been glued into place at some point in time by a previous owner of the box. The catch of the lock holds the lid securely shut.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment. This has its original red velvet linings.
Condition
This box is in lovely vintage condition with only minor light age-related wear.
All of the mosaic and marquetry inlay is present and intact.
There is some aged 'crackling' to the veneer surrounding the marquetry inlay.
There is some minor wear and small speckled foxing stains to the interior velvet.
The hinges are still in good working order.
Measurements

International postage is £30 by Royal Mail International Tracked and/or Signed For postage. Delivery is fast, within 3-5 working days to Europe and 5-7 working days to the rest of the world. Delivery may be longer depending on the speed of your local postal service and/or if your parcel has to go through customs. Please note that we cannot deliver to international PO boxes as we use a secure insured postal service that requires a signature.
