This is a beautiful antique jewellery box, complete with its original velvet lined interior. It comes from the Black Forest region and dates back to the late 19th century.
The Exterior
This beautiful Black Forest box does not have the more usual style of carved flowers or animals, rather it has a very decorative geometric chequerboard design with two carved 'straps' and 'buckles', giving the box a chest like appearance. The chequered feature has carved textured ridges and all of the wood has been richly coloured with a deep warm mahogany stain.
The box has its original hinges, working lock and period key.
A printed history of Black Forest boxes will be sent along with the box.
The Interior
The interior has its original velvet linings with the panels to the base and inside of the lid being lightly padded. Both panels are finished with fine red silk rope trim.
Condition
The box is in extremely good condition! It has sound structure and very little exterior wear, despite its 100 plus years of age.
The interior velvet has a little wear in areas but its overall condition is good.
The hinges and lock are still in good working order.

We are not responsible for locks that malfunction from further age and use once boxes are purchased. Please check the lock as soon as you receive the box - it will be checked again prior to posting.
