Beautiful high-quality antique jewellery box from the Black Forest region. The box boasts a superb raised Edelweiss flower to the lid and a fully refurbished satin-lined interior. The box dates to the late 19th century and is made from beautiful solid Limewood. It is complete with its original workig lock and key.

This is a beautiful newly lined antique jewellery box from the Black Forest region. It was made on the border between Germany and Switzerland and it dates back to the late 19th century. It has exquisite hand-carved decoration and its original working lock and key.
The Exterior
This box is made from beautiful solid Limewood. It has a stunning carved Edelweiss flower to the lid, surrounded by a beautifully engraved oval frame. This carving is raised and has a wonderful 3-dimensional form. There are further carved Edelweisses and other flowers to the lid, plus beautifully carved leaves to the front and sides of the box. There are also carved motifs to the rear of the box.
There is a beautiful stepped design to both the lid and base of the box.
The Limewood has an unusually light colour and is particularly attractive.
The box is complete with its original working brass lock and key. It also has its original brass hinges.
The bottom of the box has its original felt pads which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
As you can see, the workmanship of this box is of a very high standard!
The Interior
The interior has been fully refurbished by our very skilled box restorer. It has a single storage compartment.
Both the base of the compartment and the inside of the lid have new padded satin panels, and the interior walls of the compartment have new satin linings. The padding to the panels provides cushioned protection for jewellery. The satin is a beautiful mid-blue shade.
History
This beautiful box started life as an expensive ladies glove box. It is a wonderful piece of social history!

We would like to make you aware that antique locks can occasionally malfunction. They are already very old and so will naturally have some wear from age and use.
We are not responsible for locks that malfunction from further age and use once boxes are purchased. Please ensure the lock is still working as soon as you receive your box.

Condition
This wonderful box is in very good condition for its 130 years of age! There is no damage to the raised Edelweiss flower and both the lock and hinges are in great working order. There is very little wear to the Limewood.
There is an old small repair to the bottom edge of the lid. This has been done well and is stable and not that noticeable.
The interior linings, being new, are very neatly fitted and in lovely unused condition. There are a few tiny specks to the satin within the lid. These are only noticeable upon close scrutiny.

The raised Edelweiss has a 2.5cm height.
