Lovely vintage Italian musical jewellery box playing 'Isle of Capri'. Beautiful floral marquetry inlay to the lid and plush blue velour linings to the interior compartment.

This is a beautiful vintage musical jewellery box. It was made in Sorrento, Italy and it dates to the 1970s.
The Exterior
The lid has beautiful Rosewood veneer and very pretty marquetry inlaid flowers. The inlay is colourful, consisting of several varieties of wood, and you can see the beautiful different grains of each. The Rosewood is surrounded by a beautifully inlaid frame which has Satinwood and Ebony wood stringing. The sides of the lid have Satinwood veneer.
The body of the box is also veneered with Rosewood and has Satinwood stringing to both the front and rear sides.
The left and right sides have a beautiful angled design. They have lovely soft curvature at the top and then taper in beautifully.
The box has its original polished metal piano hinge. It also has its original working musical movement. Further details on this can be seen below.
The bottom of the box has Satinwood veneer and the box stands raised on its original, beautifully tapered, resin feet.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment to the left and the musical movement is cased to the right. The compartment and casing have their original plush blue velour linings. The casing can be removed should the musical movement ever require attention.
The inside of the lid has beautiful Mahogany veneer.
The Musical Movement
The movement plays the beautiful Italian tune 'Isle of Capri'. The music to this was written by Wilhelm Grosz (and its lyrics by Jimmy Kennedy) in 1934. In song form, it has been recorded by numerous artists such as Gracie Fields, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Frankie Laine.
The movement is in good working order, playing the tune at its correct tempo.
Operating the musical movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. 5 turns of the key are sufficient to fully wind up the movement. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
Care should be taken not to overwind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning. We are not responsible for movements that are overwound or for movements which deteriorate from further age and use, once boxes are purchased.
Please check that the movement is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.

Condition
This lovely box is good condition. It has sound structure and only minor light wear, commensurate with age and use.
All of the inlay is present and secure.
The interior velour is in good condition. It is neatly fitted and has no splits or fraying. There are a few tiny spots of wear.
The musical movement is in good working order, as stated above.
There is a tiny amount of wear to the Mahogany veneer on the inside of the lid - just around the left end of the hinge and above the metal lever that stops the music playing when the lid is closed upon it.
