Beautiful vintage Italian musical jewellery box playing 'Isola di Capri'. Beautiful Burl Elm veneer and floral marquetry inlay to the lid. New padded satin panel to the interior.

This is a beautiful vintage musical jewellery box. It was made in Sorrento, Italy and it dates to the 1950s/1960s.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid Mahogany and has a beautiful Burl Elm veneer. The lid has a further dark wood veneered panel featuring beautiful floral inlay. The inlay consists of several colourful varieties of wood and you can see the beautiful different grains within each of these. The dark veneered panel is beautifully bordered on either side with inlaid Satinwood stringing. There is further inlaid Satinwood stringing on all four sides of the box.
All of the veneer/inlay has a beautiful glossy polished and varnished finish.
The box has its original polished metal piano hinge. It stands raised on its original, beautifully tapered resin feet.
The bottom of the box has its original musical movement song title label.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment and the musical movement is cased to the right of this. Our skilled box restorer has added a new satin panel to the base of the compartment. This is padded and provides cushioned protection for jewellery.
The beautiful Mahogany carcass of the box can be seen on the inside of the lid and interior walls. That to the lid has a glossy polished and varnished finish.

The Musical Movement
This box has a quality Swiss Mapsa musical movement. This plays the lovely Italian tune 'Isola di Capri' (Isle of Capri). The music to this was written by Wilhelm Grosz (and its lyrics by Jimmy Kennedy) in 1934. In song form, it has been recorded by numerous artists such as Gracie Fields, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Frankie Laine.
The movement is in good working order, playing the tune at its correct tempo.
Operating the musical movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Five turns of the key are sufficient to fully wind up the movement. The music stops, as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
Care should be taken not to overwind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning. We are not responsible for movements that are overwound or for movements which deteriorate from further age and use once boxes are purchased.
Please check that the movement is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.

Condition
This lovely box is good condition. It has sound structure and only minor light wear, commensurate with age and use.
There are a few tiny marks to the Mahogany on the inside of the lid.
All of the veneer/inlay is present and secure.
There is a small manufacturing flaw within the dark veneered panel, at the bottom right-hand side. This is not overly noticeable.
The interior padded satin panel, being new, is in immaculate clean and unworn condition.
The musical movement is in good working order, as stated above.
The hinge and feet are secure.
