Beautiful Italian hallmarked silver box with a new dusky pink velvet panel to the compartment. Vintage, circa 1960s/1970s.

This is a beautiful Italian vintage silver box with decorative fluted detail. We have added a new plush velvet panel to the compartment, to make it functional for jewellery storage. It will hold a large pendant, large hoop earrings (or a few smaller pairs of stud earrings), a wedding/eternity ring (dependent on its size) or a brooch (dependent on its thickness). Please see the internal measurements given below.
The box was made in Firenze, Italy. It is made of 800 grade silver (has an 80% silver content) - slightly lower in purity than 925 sterling which has a 92.5% silver content.
Silver Mark/Makers Stamp/Age
The silver has an 800 silver purity stamp plus the silversmith's maker's stamp G.CIARDETTI. It is also stamped FIRENZE, the Italian province where the silversmith was registered. Pieces by this silversmith are quite rare.

History
This box started its life as a quality powder compact and is a lovely piece of Italian social history.
The Interior
The base of the interior compartment has a beautiful new dusky pink velvet panel.
The New Velvet Panel
This has been completely handmade to ensure it fits the compartment perfectly.
A quality premium velvet has been used. This is plush and has a beautiful tight weave. The shade of the velvet is 'Antique Rose'.

Condition
This box is in very fair vintage condition. There are no dings to the silver and only minor light superficial wear/light tarnish is present.
The interior velvet panel is in immaculate condition, being new.
