A beautiful large Japanese vintage musical jewellery cabinet with a black lacquered finish and decorative hand painted Japanese landscape scenes. Multiple storage drawers and a mirrored compartment with dancers. Partly refurbished interior.

This is a beautiful large vintage Japanese musical jewellery cabinet with a black lacquered finish and hand-painted landscape scenes. It dates to the 1950s and has muliple storage drawers.
The Exterior
This box has a lovely black lacquered finish and is beautifully decorated with hand painted Japanese landscape scenes. These include Mount Fuji, temples, a sailing boat, trees, birds and a bridge. The painting is in vibrant colours of red, blue, cream and gold.
There is irridescent inlaid Abalone shell to the front edges of the box.
There is a decorative brass faux lock and complementary brass brackets to the doors. These all have pretty engraving.
There is a nice long drawer at the bottom of the box, complete with its original brass swing handle.
The box stands raised on its original feet which are beautifully shaped.
The Interior
Behind the hinged doors are six storage drawers, all with their original swing handles. These also have a black lacquered finish and are decorated with hand painted birds and sailing boats.
Between the drawers is a lovely mirrored compartment, made up of five individual mirrors, four of which are beautifully angled. There is a male and female dancer within the compartment which spin around when the musical movement is in operation. The base and lid of the compartment have their original red and gold jacquard linings and the front of the compartment has its original gold silk twist trim.
The six drawers have their original red ribbed cord linings.
The bottom long drawer has been refurbished with new red satin linings.
The inside of the doors are also lacquered and decorated with sailing boats and a tree.
The Musical Movement
The movement plays a pretty tune, the title of which we haven't deciphered.
Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Seven turns of the key are sufficient to play the tune in full. The music begins to play when the bottom drawer is pulled out.
The movement is in good working order. The music stops as it should, when the drawer is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
Care must be taken not to overwind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning.
Vintage movements are already old and so will naturally have some wear from age and use. They may occasionally malfunction or deteriorate over time.
We are not responsible for movements that may deteriorate/malfunction from further age and use once a box is purchased. Neither are we responsible for movements that malfunction from overwinding.
Please ensure the movement is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.

Condition
This box is in very good vintage condition. It has sound structure and only minor light wear, commensurate with age and honest use.
The original old interior cord linings are clean, neatly fitted, and have no splits or fraying. The new satin linings in the bottom drawer are in immaculate unworn unused condition, being new. There are some stains to the original jacquard linings in the central mirrored compartment. These are still securely fitted.
The mirrors have some cloudiness/minor wear, but are in good condition overall with no chips or cracks.
The hinges are all in good working order. The doors sit ever so slightly ajar.
