Superb vintage handmade jewellery box with high-quality hand-carved woodland and field animals! The box has its original working lock and key and it has been signed by its craftsman! The interior has been partially refurbished with new padded patterned fabric panels.

This is a superb vintage handmade and hand-carved jewellery box that has been signed by its craftsman. It has a beautiful partially refurbished interior and is complete with its original working lock and key.
The Exterior
This stunning box has high-quality hand-carved panels on the lid and all four sides. Each panel features beautiful woodland and field animals, including a Bird, an Owl, Two Hares, Two Rabbits, a Shrew, a Dormouse and a Field Mouse! There are also beautifully carved flowers, leafy branches and a wheat ear, which the animals are sitting upon or running through. All of these wonderful woodland/field scenes are crisply carved and are beautifully finished with finely engraved detailing. The wood beneath the beautiful carvings has a finely stippled finish. This has created a lovely textured background for each scene.
There is a lovely shaped solid brass escutcheon to the keyhole. This has a beautiful cut out heart at the entry point to the lock. The box has complementary solid brass hinges and a complementary solid brass lock and keep.
All of the brass fitments are original to this box. The lock is stamped 'BRITISH MADE'.
The box stands raised on beautifully shaped feet which have a stylish stepped design.
The bottom of the box bears the craftsman's signature and location. This appears to read - 'made by LG Cook, Corston, Malmesbury'.
The Interior
The interior has a single rectangular compartment and has been partially refurbished by ourselves.
There are new patterned fabric panels to both the base of the compartment and the inside of the lid. The panels are padded, providing cushioned protection for jewellery. The interior walls have their original black leatherette linings.
The fabric is a colourful apple green shade and has multiple pretty white hearts. This fabric was thoughtfully chosen to complement the beautiful brass keyhole escutcheon.

We would like to make you aware that vintage locks can occasionally malfunction. They are already old and so will naturally have some wear from age and previous use.
We are not responsible for locks that malfunction from further age and use once boxes are purchased. Please ensure the lock is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.

Condition
This very decorative box is still in excellent condition. It has sound structure and no damage to any of the carvings. The hinges and lock are still in very good working order.
The interior padded fabric panels, being new, are in clean and unworn condition.
There is minor light wear to the original leatherette linings.
