A beautiful late 19th century solid Rosewood French jewellery box. Stunning inlaid decoration to the lid and a stylish plinth base. Fully refurbished velvet lined interior.

This is a beautifully refurbished French Rosewood jewellery box, dating to the late 19th century, circa 1870/1880.
The Exterior
This box has is made of solid Rosewood. It has stunning inlaid decoration to the lid and a beautiful stylish plinth base. The inlay is made from a variety of materials, namely silver, Mother of Pearl and bone. It features a beautiful spray of leafy flowers and a very pretty dragonfly.
The front of the box has inlaid brass stringing and a complementary inlaid brass escutcheon to the keyhole.
The body of the box has beautiful canted/sculptured corners.
The box is complete with its original brass lock, key, and piano hinge.
The bottom of the box has a new felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The Interior
The interior has been fully refurbished by ourselves. The compartment and the inside of the lid have beautiful new premium cotton velvet linings. The panels to the base of the compartment and back wall of the lid are padded, providing cushioned protection for jewellery. The velvet is a beautiful dark navy blue.
The compartment is fairly large and deep. It will hold a good amount of jewellery including large pieces such as broad bangles and watches.
Condition
This box is in very good condition for its age. It has sound structure and no cracks.
All of the inlay is still present, intact and securely seated.
Being new, the velvet linings are in immaculate unworn, unused condition.
The lock is in good working order.
The hinge is in good working order. It has some light surface wear.
Notes
There was originally inlaid fine brass stringing to the lid. Most of this has been lost over the years but this doesn't detract from the lid's beautiful overall appearance.
There is a small piece of moulding missing to the rear left corner of the plinth base. Being at the rear this is not overly noticeable and can barely be seen from the front view of the box.
