A beautiful antique Victorian jewellery box with extremely attractive Rosewood veneer and a fully refurbished satin and paper lined interior. Circa 1880/1890.

This is a lovely antique Rosewood jewellery box. It dates to the Victorian period, circa 1880/1890. The Rosewood has stunning figuration and the interior has been newly refurbished.
The Exterior
This box has beautiful Rosewood veneer. The Rosewood is extremely attractive; exceptional in both its colour and figuration. All of the veneer is beautifully framed with Boxwood banding and light Mahogany stringing.
The centre of the lid has a lovely Mother of Pearl cartouche and the keyhole has a complementary Mother of Pearl escutcheon. Both of these are inlaid, set flush into the veneer.
The box is complete with its original brass stop hinges which hold the lid upright. It also has its original brass lock. Please note the lock is not functional and therefore has no key.
The bottom of the box has a new felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The Interior
The interior has a single compartment which is deep enough to store large pieces of jewellery such as broad bangles and watches.
The interior has been recently refurbished. The base of the compartment plus the inside of the lid, have new padded red satin panels. The padding provides cushioned protection for jewellery. The interior walls have new red paper linings which complement the satin.
Condition
This wonderful old box is in excellent condition for its 135-145 years of age. It has sound structure and no cracks. There is only very minor light age related wear to the veneer.
The interior linings, being new, are in clean unused/unworn condition.
The hinges are still in very good working order.
