This is a beautiful Art Deco jewellery box, dating to the 1930s. It has beautiful fully refurbished compartments and is in lovely condition for its 90 plus years of age!
The Exterior
This box has beautiful Walnut veneer which has superb figuration and a beautiful grain. There are two highly decorative panels of veneer to the lid and front, and wide crossbands of veneer on either side of these. The panels have been skillfully cut and positioned to create a lovely symmetrical pattern with the Walnut's figuration.
There is a stylish white Bakelite lipped handle to the lid that enables you to lift it up with ease. Bakelite was the first synthetic plastic and it was very popular during the Art Deco period.
The box has a stylish 'flat' streamlined design which was also very popular throughout the Art Deco era.
The box stands raised on its original hardwood feet and it also has its original high-quality retracting chrome quadrant hinges.
The Interior
The interior has two beautifully partitioned compartments that have both been newly refurbished by ourselves. The bases to the compartments have new cotton poppy print panels, as does the inside of the lid, and the walls of the compartments have new red velvet panels.
The New Panels
All of these are completely handmade in order to fit the compartments perfectly. The panels to the bases are padded, providing cushioned protection for jewellery.
The velvet is high-quality premium cotton velvet. This has a plush short pile and a lovely tight weave.
The cotton poppy fabric is very pretty! This has a Liberty style and it contrasts beautifully with the red velvet.

Condition
This beautiful box is in lovely condition for its age! It has sound structure and only minor light wear, commensurate with age and honest use.
The interior panels, being new, are in immaculate unworn, unused condition.
