Beautiful vintage Italian jewellery box from Sorrento. Vitreous Raspberry pink enamelled finish and a beautiful floral inlay to the lid. Plush velvety linings to the interior.

This is a beautiful vintage jewellery box, made in Sorrento, Italy. It dates to the 1980s and is in wonderful condition.
The Exterior
This box has beautifully rounded sides and the lid has a lightly domed form with soft angles.
The lid has a gorgeous Raspberry pink enamelled finish, as does the back and left/right sides of the box. There is also inlaid decoration to the lid which features pretty flowers and leaves. The front of the box has a different shade of enamel.
The enamel is vitreous and so gives off a beautiful shimmer.
The inlay consists of a variety of woods which have different colours and grains.
The box has a lovely burl wood veneer and you can see its beautiful figuration and knots through the enamel.
The entire box has been highly polished and varnished. This has given it a gorgeous glossy sheen and it is beautifully smooth to the touch. The varnish will help prevent the veneer from becoming scratched.
The edges of the lid have a lovely Satinwood veneer which beautifully frames the enamelled burl wood.
The box has its original polished gold metal piano hinge.
The bottom of the box has Satinwood veneer and its original little felt pads. These will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment. This has its original velvety linings which are a lovely dark chocolate shade. The lining to the base of the compartment is padded. This provides a protective cushion for jewellery.
The inside of the lid has a Satinwood veneer which is lighter than that to the exterior. The top edges to the compartment have beautiful Olivewood veneer and you can see its distinctive and characteristic dark streaks within it. This too has a glossy polished and varnished finish.
History
This box was made in Sorrento in Southern Italy. This is a beautiful coastal town which overlooks the Bay of Naples. It has long been a popular tourist destination.
Condition
This box is in extremely good condition. It has sound structure and only very minor light wear.
All of the vitreous enamel and inlay is present and intact.
The interior linings are still in excellent condition. They are clean, neatly fitted, and have no splits or fraying.
