A stunning vintage musical ring box from Sorrento, Italy. Beautiful burl wood veneer and a shimmery vitreous enamelled finish. Beautiful inlaid scene to the lid. Plush blush pink linings to the interior. Circa 1980s/1990s.

This is a very beautiful vintage ring box, made in Sorrento, Italy. It dates to the 1980s/1990s and is in wonderful condition. The box is musical and plays 'TORNA A SURRIENTO' (Come Back to Sorrento).
The Exterior
This box has a very stylish design with beautifully rounded sides to the body. It has beautiful burl wood veneer and a stunning vitreous enamelled finish which has a gorgeous subtle shimmer. You can see the beautiful figuration of the burl wood through the enamel.
The lid has beautiful inlaid decoration which features a heart, flowers and leaves. The inlay consists of a variety of woods, including shimmery Satinwood.
The entire box has been highly polished and varnished. It therefore has a gorgeous glossy sheen and is beautifully smooth to the touch.
The edges of the lid are beautifully framed with Satinwood veneer.
The box has its original polished gold metal piano hinge.
The bottom of the box has retained its original song title and Made in Sorrento, Italy labels.
The box stands raised on its original beautifully shaped gold metal feet.
The Interior
The interior has a lovely single ring storage section. The musical movement is to the right of this and can be viewed beneath its clear perspex cover. The cover can be removed should the movement ever require attention.
The interior compartment has its original soft blush pink linings.
The inside of the lid and the top edges surrounding the compartment, are beautifully finished with striped Macassar Ebony veneer. This also has a glossy high polished and varnished finish. (There is a small manufacturing blemish to the veneer adjacent to the top right of the compartment.)
The ring storage section will hold 3-4 rings, dependent on their shapes and sizes.
There is shallow storage space (7mm depth) upon the perspex ledge over the musical movement. This will hold thin pieces of jewellery such as flat hooped earrings and pendants.
The Musical Movement
The movement plays the beautiful Italian tune 'Torna a Surriento' (Torna a Sorrento). The English translation of this is 'Come Back To Sorrento'. It is a beautiful Neapolitan song which was composed in 1902 by Ernesto De Curtis. The song has since been sung by numerous performers such as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and each of the Three Tenors, to name just a few!
The movement is in perfect working order, playing the tune at its correct tempo.
Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Two turns only of the key should be used to wind up the movement. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
As with all musical boxes, care should be taken not to overwind the movement. Overwinding will result in the movement malfunctioning. Please allow the movement to fully unwind before rewinding. We are not responsible for movements that are overwound or for movements which deteriorate from further age and use once boxes are purchased.
Please check the movement is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.

Condition
This box is in extremely good condition. It has sound structure and barely any wear.
All of the vitreous enamel and inlay is present and intact.
The interior linings are neatly fitted and in good clean unworn condition.

The musical movement is in perfect working order, as stated above.
