Beautiful Victorian jewellery box, circa 1870/80. Warm Walnut veneer with beautiful figuration and Mother of Pearl inlay. Fully refurbished interior with new padded satin panels and floral printed paper. Working lock and key.

This is a beautiful Victorian jewellery box, dating to 1870/1880. It has a lovely newly refurbished interior and a working lock and key.
The Exterior
This box has a wonderful Walnut veneer which has a rich warm colour and beautiful figuration.
The lid has an inlaid Mother of Pearl cartouche and the keyhole has a matching inlaid escutcheon. Both have a stylish elongated diamond shape and both are set beautifully flush into the veneer.
The edges of the box are finished with dark ebonised veneer. They are beautifully contoured and the corners are nicely rounded.
The box is complete with its original brass stop hinges which hold the lid upright. It has a solid brass replacement working lock with a fitted replacement key.
The bottom of the box has a new felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The Interior
The entire interior has been newly refurbished by our skilled box restorer.
The box has its original removable French polished storage tray. Our restorer has modified this by removing a few compartments in order to give it some larger storage compartments. It now houses eight compartments of varying shapes and sizes for the storage of both small and larger pieces of jewellery. The rear left and right compartments are their original shape and size and are complete with their original lids. The rest of the compartments have an open design. All of the compartments have beautiful new raspberry red satin linings. The lids are also lined with the same and have replacement high-quality turned bone knobs. These knobs were made in the Victorian period and are in keeping with the knobs which would've been on the lids originally. The bottom of the storage tray has a new felt covering which matches that on the bottom of the box. The tray has new red silk ribbon pull tabs which enable it to be lifted out of the box with ease.
There is a further original single large compartment beneath the storage tray. This will hold a vast amount of jewellery including large pieces such as bangles, watches and chunky beads. The base of this plus the inside of the lid, both have new padded raspberry red satin panels which match the linings in the tray. The interior walls of the compartment and lid have new high-quality printed paper linings. The paper is cream and has a pretty floral pattern.

Condition
This beautiful box is still in lovely condition with only minor light surface scratches and tiny dings, commensurate with age and honest use.
All of the inlay is present and intact.
The hinges and lock are in excellent working order. The key securely locks the box.
All of the interior satin and paper linings, being new, are in beautiful, clean, unworn condition.

We would like to make you aware that locks can occasionally malfunction. We are not responsible for locks that malfunction from age and use once boxes are purchased.
Please ensure the lock is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.
