This is a beautiful Art Deco jewellery box, dating to the 1920s/1930s. It has a beautiful fully refurbished interior and is in excellent condition for its age.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid Mahogany and has beautiful Walnut and Rosewood veneers. The Walnut veneers are quarter-sawn and have been skillfully positioned to create a beautiful symmetrical pattern. More information about quarter-sawn Walnut is given below.
The lid has a stylish Walnut lip that enables you to lift it up with ease.
The box has a stylish 'flat' streamlined design which was very popular throughout the Art Deco era. It stands raised on its original Walnut feet which have been beautifully shaped.
The box has its original solid brass hinges. These are high-quality retracting quadrant hinges.
About The Quarter-Sawn Walnut
The Walnut, having been quarter-sawn, shows off the beautiful internal rays of the wood! Plain sawn Walnut is a lot less decorative. Quarter-sawn Walnut, asides from being decorative, is more stable and much less prone to cupping. It also expands more and contracts less. It is for all these reasons that Quarter-sawn wood is more expensive than plain sawn.
The Interior
The interior has been newly refurbished by our wonderful box restorer. It has a single storage compartment.
The compartment plus the inside of the lid have beautiful new satin panels and linings. Each satin panel is beautifully padded to provide cushioned protection for jewellery. The satin is a beautiful teal blue shade.

Condition
This fabulous box has sound structure and is in excellent condition for its age! It has only minor light age-related wear.
The interior linings, being new, are in immaculate clean and unused condition.
