A very charming late 19th century jewellery box from Mauchlin, Scotland. Lovely transfer printed scenes of Drummond Castle. All in completely original condition.

This is a lovely Scottish antique jewellery box with multiple compartments and various transfer printed scenes of Drummond Castle in Crieff, Scotland. It dates to the late 1800s.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid Sycamore wood and is complete with its original hinges. It has various transfer printed scenes of Drummond Castle, to the lid, front and also the lock keep.
The lock has a crowned VR patent stamp. These locks were manufactured during the reign of Queen Victoria, circa 1837-1901. Please note the lock is no longer functional and therefore has no key.
About Mauchlinware Goods
Mauchlinware is Scottish souvenir woodware with transfer printed images which were designed to appeal to 19th century tourists. It was made in the Ayrshire town, Mauchlin, between the 1820s to the 1930s. A sheet of information on Mauchlinware/Drummond Castle is included with the box.
The Interior
The interior has five storage compartments which are useful for keeping different types of jewellery separate. They all have their original red linings with light beige twisted cord trim. The smaller top and centre compartments have a lovely hinged swing opening design.
Condition
This charming old box is in very fair condition for its 135-145 years of age. It has sound structure and no splits or cracks.
Being in completely original condition, it does have some wear from age and use, which in our opinion adds to its charm. The scenes of Drummond Castle are somewhat faded and that to the lid has some very old water marks.
The box may not make a suitable gift for those who prefer a perfect interior. It will be most suited to those who love the character and charm of a genuine old box which has been loved and used for its intended purpose.

International postage is £30 by Royal Mail International Tracked and/or Signed For postage. Delivery is fast, within 3-5 working days to Europe and 5-7 working days to the rest of the world. Please note that we cannot deliver to international PO boxes as we use a secure insured postal service that requires a signature.
