Beautiful vintage Japanese musical jewellery box from the 1980s. Glossy black lacquered finish and decorative Irises to the lid. Plays the musical tune 'The Shadow of Your Smile'.

This is a beautiful vintage Japanese jewellery box, dating to the 1980s. It is a musical box which plays 'The Shadow of Your Smile'.
The Exterior
This box has a stylish streamlined design and a beautiful glossy black lacquered finish. The lid features decorative gold Irises and there is a gold painted finish around the bottom edges of the lid and top edges of the body.
The box was made by the Japanese manufacturer, OTAGIRI, and is from the Golden Iris range. The original OTAGIRI and tune title labels are on the bottom of the box.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartments plus a ring storage section to the front left. The musical movement is cased behind this. The interior has its original plush black velour linings and a fitted mirror to the inside of the lid.
The Musical Movement
The movement plays the beautiful tune 'The Shadow of Your Smile', which has been performed by numerous artists since 1965. It was first introduced in the 1965 film, The Sandpiper.
The movement is in good working order.
Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Four turns of the key are sufficient to fully wind up the movement. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
As with all musical boxes, care should be taken not to overwind the movement. Overwinding will result in the movement malfunctioning. Please allow the movement to fully unwind before rewinding. We are not responsible for movements that are overwound or for movements which deteriorate from further age and use once boxes are purchased.
Please check the movement is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.

Condition
This box is in lovely vintage condition. It has sound structure and only minor light surface wear to the lacquered finish.
The interior linings are neatly fitted and in good clean condition. They have only minor light wear which is commensurate with age and honest use.
