This is a lovely large vintage musical jewellery box, made in England in the 1950s/1960s. It has multiple compartments, a spinning ballerina and a fitted mirror.
The Exterior
This box has a textured cream leather look vinyl finish and a beautiful inset shimmery foiled print to the lid. This features a pretty scene of two beautiful swans, sitting beneath blossom trees, upon a croci covered hill.
The box has a secure metal catch, as well as its original hinges and feet.
The Maker
This box was made by the renowned vintage jewellery box manufacturer 'Tallent of Old Bond Street'. Their original metal label is on the bottom of the box.
The Interior
The interior has five roomy storage compartments and a lovely fitted mirror inside the lid. This is framed with red braided trim. All of the compartments have their original brushed red felt linings. The two top lift out compartments have ring storage sections.
The musical movement is concealed beneath the ledge at the rear centre of the interior. This can be removed if the movement ever requires attention. The ballerina is situated here and she spins when the musical movement is in operation. This section of the box also acts as a further (sixth) compartment.
The Musical Movement
This box has its original musical movement. It plays the beautiful tune 'Greensleeves', a traditional English folk song which dates back to the 16th century.
Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Five turns of the key are sufficient to play the tune in full.
The movement is in good working order, playing the tune at its correct tempo. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
Care must be taken not to overwind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning. It is advisable to let the movement fully unwind before rewinding.
Vintage movements are already old and so will naturally have some wear from age and use. They may occasionally malfunction and/or deteriorate over time.
We are not responsible for movements that may deteriorate or malfunction from further age and use once a box is purchased. Neither are we responsible for movements that malfunction from overwinding.
Please ensure the movement is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.

Condition
This box is in wonderful vintage condition. It has sound structure and no cracks.
The exterior vinyl and interior felt linings have been newly cleaned. The linings are still neatly fitted and have only minor light wear/marks. There is a very faint ring mark on the vinyl on the lid (left hand side) and a little wear to the vinyl on the edges/corners.
The mirror is secure and has no chips or cracks. It has a few blemishes/tiny foxing spots.
The hinges and musical movement are still in good working order.
Note: The key is missing, however the catch keeps the lid securely shut.
