Superb large Arts & Crafts jewellery chest, made during the Art Nouveau period. Circa 1890/1900. Beautifully carved features. 3 drawers which are newly refurbished with red satin linings and padded satin panels.

This is a wonderful large antique jewellery chest in the form of a miniature chest of drawers. It is a fabulous handmade Arts & Crafts chest, made during the Arts & Crafts movement of the Art Nouveau period. It dates to 1890/1900.
The Exterior
The majority of this chest is made of beautiful solid Oak which has a deep rich colour and lovely figuration. It has a solid Pine back panel and 3 solid Pine drawers, with the drawers having beautiful solid Oak panelled fronts.
Each Oak drawer front has superb carved decoration and beautifully turned solid Oak knobs. The tips of these are shaped like the caps of Acorns which is wonderful considering they are made of Oak. The design of these knobs was obviously thoughtfully considered by the skilled craftsman who made this chest.
There are beautifully carved pillars/columns on either side of the drawers. These have very decorative raised features at the top, centre and bottom.
There is a beautiful stepped design to the edges of the top and the chest has a lovely plinthed base, again with a stepped finish to the edges.
The chest stands raised on its original squat bun feet (at the front) and its original block feet (at the rear).
The Drawers Interiors
The interiors of all 3 drawers have been beautifully refurbished by our skilled box restorer. Each has beautiful new red satin linings and new red padded satin panels to their bases. These provide cushioned protection for jewellery.
All 3 drawers are deep and spacious, roomy enough to hold a good amount of jewellery, including large pieces such as bangles, watches and beads.

Condition
This beautiful box is in wonderful condition. It has sound structure and very little wear, despite its 120/130 years of age.
The interior satin linings, being new, are in immaculate unused condition.
The base of the bottom drawer has a minor fine shrinkage crack. This is not damage and it does not affect the function of the drawer.
