Lovely vintage 1940s Italian jewellery box from Sorrento. Beautiful Birds Eye Maple veneer and decorative marquetry inlay to the lid. Beautiful original padded and quilted pink satin panels and satin linings. Working lock and key.

This is a beautiful large inlaid vintage jewellery box, made in Sorrento, Italy. It dates to the 1940s and has its original plump quilted silk panels, plus original working lock and key.
The Exterior
This box has decorative floral marquetry inlay, consisting of several colourful varieties of wood. It has a beautiful domed lid and a stylish plinth base. The box has beautiful Birds Eye Maple veneer and this has a glossy lacquered finish. It is complete with its original long piano hinge, plus original working lock and key.
The bottom of the box has a new felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The Interior
The interior has its original plump pink silk panels. These are deeply padded and have pink silk button detail. The walls to the lid have their original matching pink silk linings and the walls to the compartment have been newly refurbished with beautiful patterned pink paper linings. This work has been carried out by our wonderful skilled box restorer.

Condition
This wonderful box is in very good condition for its 80 plus years of age. All of the inlay is present and intact and the box is structurally sound. There are a few marks/fine superficial lines to the veneer, none of which are overly evident.
The interior silk panels and linings are in very fair condition for their age. Being 80 years old they do have some wear, marks and discoluration, but overall they are very good.
The hinge and lock are still in good working order.
