A lovely antique jewellery box, dating to the Edwardian period. Very attractive Rosewood veneer and a fully refurbished velvet lined interior.

This is a lovely antique Rosewood jewellery box. It dates to the Edwardian period, circa 1901-1910.
The Exterior
This box has beautiful Rosewood veneer which is extremely attractive, having a wonderful deep reddish brown hue.
The edges of the lid are framed with white metal stringing and there is an inlaid white metal shield shaped cartouche to the centre of the lid. This has some lightly engraved initials which can be interpreted as CE, GE or OE. The initials are not very obvious in any case. There is also an inlaid white metal escutcheon to the keyhole which has a lovely diamond shape.
The box is complete with its original white metal lock and stop hinges. The hinges hold the lid upright. Please note there is no key and the lock is therefore untested.
The bottom of the box has a new black felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The Interior
The interior has a single compartment which is deep enough to store large pieces of jewellery such as broad bangles and watches.
The interior has been newly refurbished by ourselves. The base of the compartment plus the inside of the lid have new plush burgundy velvet panels. The panel to the base is padded, this providing cushioned protection for jewellery. The interior walls have new red paper linings which complement the velvet.
Condition
This lovely old box is in good condition for its age. It has sound structure and no cracks. There is minor light age related wear and fine surface scratches which are not too obvious. There is a little fading to the Rosewood surrounding the keyhole escutcheon.
The interior linings, being new, are in immaculate unused condition.
The hinges are in good working order.
