Beautiful vintage Italian jewellery box from Sorrento. Highly figured veneer and a beautiful floral inlaid feature to the lid. Plush red velvety linings to the interior. Circa 1980s/1990s.

This is a lovely vintage jewellery box, made in Sorrento, Italy. It dates to the 1980s/1990s and is in very good condition. The box is musical and plays 'Come Back To Sorrento'.
The Exterior
This box has beautiful rounded sides and a stylish shallow pyramid form to the lid. It has beautiful highly figured veneer and lovely inlaid flowers upon the lid. The inlay consists of a variety of woods that have different colours and grains.
There is a inlaid frame of Satinwood wood stringing around the edges of the lid.
The entire box has been polished and varnished. This has given it a gorgeous glossy sheen and a lovely tactile smoothness.
The box has its original polished gold metal piano hinge and it stands raised on it its original polished gold metal feet.
The bottom of the box has beautiful polished and varnished Satinwood veneer and its original song title label.
Please note: There is no key with this box.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment on the left and the musical movement is cased to the right of this. There is shallow storage space upon the ledge of the casing where small pieces of jewellery can be placed.
All of the interior has its original red plush velvety linings. The lining to the base of the compartment is padded, providing cushioned protection for jewellery.
The inside of the lid is beautifully veneered. This too has a glossy polished and varnished finish. It also has inlaid Satinwood stringing, matching that on the lid's exterior.
The Musical Movement
The movement plays the beautiful Italian tune 'Torna a Surriento' (Torna a Sorrento). The English translation of this is 'Come Back To Sorrento'. It is a beautiful Neapolitan song which was composed in 1902 by Ernesto De Curtis. The song has since been sung by numerous performers such as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and each of the Three Tenors, to name just a few!
The movement is in perfect working order, playing the tune at its correct tempo.
Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Four turns of the key are sufficient to fully wind up the movement. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
As with all musical boxes, care should be taken not to overwind the movement. Overwinding will result in the movement malfunctioning. Please allow the movement to fully unwind before rewinding. We are not responsible for movements that are overwound or for movements which deteriorate from further age and use once boxes are purchased.
Please check the movement is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.

The movement's casing can easily be removed should it ever require attention.
Condition
This box is in very good pre-loved condition. It has sound structure and only minor light wear, commensurate with age and honest use.
All of the veneer and inlay is present and intact.
The interior linings are neatly fitted and in good clean condition.
The hinge is still in good working order, as is the musical movement.
There is some wear to the gold plated finish on the lock.
