Lovely vintage Italian musical jewellery box from Sorrento. Vitreous enamelled finish and beautiful inlaid flowers to the lid. Plush blush pink velour linings to the interior. Circa 1980s/1990s. Plays 'Amazing Grace'.

This is a lovely vintage jewellery box, made in Sorrento, Italy. It dates to the 1980s/1990s and is in very good condition. The box is musical and plays the tune 'Amazing Grace'.
The Exterior
This box has beautifully rounded sides and a lovely shallow pyramid form to the lid. It has a stunning plum coloured vitreous enamel finish and beautiful floral inlay on the lid. The inlay consists of a variety of colourful woods.
The box has a lovely burl wood veneer and you can see its beautiful figuration through the enamel.
The entire box has been highly polished and varnished. This has given it a gorgeous glossy sheen and it is beautifully smooth to the touch. The vitreous enamel adds a lovely subtle shimmer to the box.
The edges of the lid are beautifully framed with a dark wood veneer and fine inlaid Satinwood stringing.
The box has its original polished gold metal piano hinge.
The bottom of the box has retained its original MADE IN ITALY label.
The box stands raised on its original beautifully shaped gold metal bun feet.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment. There is a ring storage section to the left of this and the musical movement is cased to the right. These all have their original blush pink velour linings. The lining to the base of the compartment is padded, providing cushioned protection for jewellery.
There is further shallow storage space (1.5cm depth) upon the ledge of the musical movement's casing.
The inside of the lid has beautiful veneer. This also has a glossy high polished and varnished finish. There is fine inlaid Satinwood stringing, framing the veneer, which matches that on the lid's exterior.
The Musical Movement
The movement plays the beautiful tune 'Amazing Grace'. This is a beautiful Christian hymn, written by the English poet and clergyman John Newton in 1772.
The movement is in perfect working order, playing the tune at its correct tempo.
Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Five turns of the key are sufficient to fully wind up the movement. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
As with all musical boxes, care should be taken not to overwind the movement. Overwinding will result in the movement malfunctioning. Please allow the movement to fully unwind before rewinding. We are not responsible for movements that are overwound or for movements which deteriorate from further age and use once boxes are purchased.
Please check the movement is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.

The movement's casing can easily be removed should it ever require attention.
Condition
This box is in very good condition. It has sound structure and only very minor light wear, commensurate with age and honest use. All of the vitreous enamel and inlay is present and intact.
The interior linings are neatly fitted and in good condition. They have a few minor marks from previous jewellery storage.
The hinge is in good working order.
The musical movement is in perfect working order, as stated above.
