Beautiful vintage mid 20th century Italian jewellery box from Sorrento. Highly decorative marquetry inlay to the lid and a new padded satin panel to the interior. In very good condition.
This is a beautiful vintage jewellery box, made in Sorrento, Italy. It dates to the mid 20th century and is in very good condition for its age!
The Exterior
The lid is highly decorated with beautiful marquetry inlay. It has beautiful bevelled edges with further inlay, and there is lovely cross banding surrounding the decorative inlaid panel. There is also inlaid stringing around the body of the box.
The inlay is made up of several varieties of wood, including a beautiful burl wood. It features (an urn of) flowers and leaves, and mythical winged creatures.
All of the wood has a highly polished and varnished finish which has given it a beautiful sheen.
The box is complete with its original polished piano hinge, as well as its original working lock and key.
The Interior
The interior has beautiful Mahogany veneer and a single storage compartment. The base of the compartment has a new padded teal blue satin panel with a deep navy blue pull tab. The back of the panel has a beautiful printed paper covering. Our restorer has made this panel removeable as the Mahogany base is in such good condition. You can remove the panel to view this beautiful wood.

Condition
This wonderful box is in very good condition for its 70 plus years of age. All of the inlay is present and intact and the box is structurally sound.
The new interior panel, being new, is in immaculate unworn and unused condition.
There is a slight gap between the lid and body of the box on the right side. This isn't overly obvious and it doesn't prevent the box from locking.
The hinge is still in good working order and the box locks securely.
There is some friction wear to the bottom of the box which obviously can't be seen unless you turn it over.
