Beautiful late Victorian jewellery box, circa 1870/1880. Warm Walnut veneer with beautiful figuration. Fully refurbished interior with padded satin and paper panels. Beautiful Mother of Pearl and Abalone shell cartouche and keyhole escutcheon. Working lock and key.

This is a beautiful Victorian jewellery box, dating to 1870/1880. It has a stunning newly refurbished interior and its original working lock and key.
The Exterior
This box has a wonderful Burr Walnut veneer which has a rich warm colour and beautiful figuration.
The lid has an inlaid Mother of Pearl and Abalone shell cartouche and the keyhole has a matching escutcheon. Both of these have a stylish diamond shape and are set beautifully flush into the veneer.
The edges of the box have a dark ebonised finish.
The box is complete with its original stop hinges which hold the lid upright. It is also complete with its original working lock and key.
The bottom of the box has a new felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The Interior
The entire interior has been newly refurbished and looks absolutely beautiful! All of this work has been carried out by our very skilled box restorer.
There is a new removable storage tray at the top which has been beautifully French polished and stained. The tray has four storage compartments of varying shapes and sizes. The rear compartment is the ideal shape and size for laying out chains and necklaces. The centre front compartment is an ideal shape and size for bangles and watches, and the front side compartments for smaller pieces of jewellery such as rings, brooches, earrings and pendants.
There is a large deep and roomy single compartment beneath the storage tray. This will hold a vast amount of jewellery, including large pieces such as broad bangles, watches and beads.
All of the compartments, plus the inside of the lid, have new high-quality satin panels. Those to the lid and bases of the compartments are padded, providing cushioned protection for jewellery. The walls to the lid and lower compartment have new high-quality paper linings. The satin and paper is a beautiful teal blue shade. The panel to the inside of the lid is beautifully finished with a frame of gold twisted silk cord trim.
The bottom of the tray has a new felt covering which matches that on the bottom of the box. The tray has navy blue silk ribbon pull tabs which enable it to be lifted out with ease.

Condition
This beautiful box is in excellent condition. It has sound structure and only minor light wear from age and use. There is one minor linear dent to the front left corner of the lid.
The hinges and lock are still in great working order.
All of the interior linings, being new, are in immaculate unused condition.
All of the shell inlay is present and intact.
Notes About Antique Locks
We would like to make you aware that antique locks can occasionally malfunction. They are already very old and will naturally have some wear from age and use. We are not responsible for locks that malfunction from further age and use once boxes are purchased.
Please ensure the lock is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.
