Beautiful late Victorian jewellery box, circa 1890. Warm Walnut veneer with beautiful figuration. Fully refurbished interior with new high quality velvet and paper linings. Beautiful Berlin Strapwork inlay. Working lock and key.
This is a beautiful late Victorian jewellery box, dating to around 1890. It has a new fully refurbished interior and its original working lock and beautiful bow key.
The Exterior
This box has a wonderful Walnut veneer which has a rich warm colour and beautiful figuration.
There are beautiful bands of 'Berlin Strapwork' inlay to both the lid and front of the box. The inlay consists of several varieties of colourful exotic fruitwoods.
There is a beautiful inlaid Mother of Pearl shield cartouche on the lid and a matching inlaid escutcheon to the keyhole. The Mother of Pearl has beautiful irridescent colours and a lovely shine.
All of the inlay is of a high quality and set flush into the Walnut veneer.
The box is complete with its original stop hinges which hold the lid upright. It is also complete with its original working lock and beautiful large bow key.
The bottom of the box has an old replacement felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The Interior
The entire interior has been newly refurbished by ourselves.
The walls to the compartment and inside of the lid have new high quality pale cream paper linings.
The base of the compartment has a new emerald green premium velvet panel. This is padded, providing cushioned protection for jewellery.
The back panel to the inside of the lid has a new high quality printed paper lining. This features beautiful Humming Birds amongst flowers, berries and leaves. The paper is cream and green and it beautifully compliments the rest of the linings and velvet base panel. New silver twisted silk cord beautifully frames this printed paper.
The compartment is spacious and will hold a vast amount of jewellery, including large pieces such as broad bangles, bracelets, watches and chunky beads.
Condition
This beautiful box is still in very good condition for its age. There is minor light wear to Walnut veneer, commensurate with age and honest use. There is one small ding on the left side of the lid which isn't overly noticeable.
The hinges and lock are still in good working order.
All of the inlay is present and intact.
All of the interior linings are in immaculate unworn/unused condition, being new.
