This is a charming small Edwardian jewellery box, dating to 1901-1910.
The Exterior
This box has a deep black textured leather finish with an embossed gold border to the lid. It has its original stylish gold metal clasp which keeps the lid securely closed.
The box has its original polished white metal piano hinge. This is a quality stop hinge which holds the lid upright.
The bottom of the box has its original soft felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The leather has been recently polished.
The Interior
The interior has a solid wood carcass and two nicely partitioned compartments. The bases of both compartments have their original soft plush burgundy velvet linings. The wood has a complementary Mahogany stain. The compartments are ideal for keeping gold and silver jewellery separate.
Condition
This box is in extremely good condition for its 100 plus years of age. It has sound structure and only minor light age-related wear to the leather.
There is a small amount of the embossed gold missing, again minor wear from age and handling.
The interior velvet linings are still in excellent clean condition. They are neatly fitted and have no splits.
The hinge and clasp are still in excellent working order. There are a few little scratches to the hinge.
There is some minor friction wear to the felt covering on the bottom of the box.
