Beautiful solid brass Art Deco jewellery box with an iconic Art Deco Sunray design. Brushed flock linings to the interior.
FREE UK NEXT DAY SPECIAL DELIVERY. We Ship Worldwide.
This is a beautiful Art Deco solid brass jewellery box, dating to the 1930s.
Notes About The Photos
The brass to the body of the box has picked up reflections from a wooden table. There are no streaks on the brass.
The Exterior
This box has a stylish 'flat' streamlined design which was very popular during the Art Deco period.
The lid has a large Sunray motif which was hugely iconic in the Art Deco era. The rays have textured engine-turned engraving which contrasts beautifully against the smooth polished brass.
The lid has a beautifully shaped lipped handle and soft angled corners.
This box originally had a hinged lid. The hinges have been professionally removed and their locations have been polished smooth. These were removed by a previous owner, either out of preference or due to them having wear.
The Interior
The interior has a single wood-lined storage compartment. There are black flock linings to both the inside of the lid and the storage compartment. These are later additions to the box and were most likely added when the lid was altered. This work has also been carried out professionally.
The bottom of the box is engraved 'The Greys'. This is likely to be the family name of its original owners.
History
This box was originally designed to store cigarettes or cigars. It is a wonderful piece of social history which has been converted into a beautiful jewellery box.
There is NO cigarette odour present.
Condition
This box is in lovely condition for its age. It has sound structure and no dents or unsightly scratches.
The interior flock linings are neatly fitted and in very good clean condition.
The brass will be polished prior to shipping. We advise future polishing from time to time, to keep it glossy and free from smudges and tarnish.
There is some friction wear to the brass on bottom of the box.
