Beautiful late Victorian jewellery box, circa 1880. Wonderful Rosewood and Masur Birch veneers plus beautiful mother of pearl roundels, mother of pearl diamond cartouche and pewter stringing. Fully refurbished interior with padded satin panels. Working lock and key.

This is an absolutely beautiful Victorian jewellery box, dating to around 1880. It has a stunning fully refurbished interior and its original working lock and key.
The Exterior
This box is of solid wood construction and is very smartly finished with a variety of wood veneers. There are beautiful broad bands of both Rosewood and Masur Birch veneers to the lid and front, plus wonderful Rosewood veneer to both sides and the rear of the box. There is a lovely frame of cross-cut Rosewood veneer surrounding the bands on the lid.
The lid is further decorated with beautiful inlaid pewter stringing, mother of pearl roundels and a diamond-shaped mother of pearl cartouche. The edges of the lid have superb ribbed moulding.
The front of the box is also decorated with complementary pewter stringing and mother of pearl roundels. It also has a beautiful raised mother of pearl escutcheon to the keyhole.
As you can see the box is extremely decorative!
There is a new soft felt covering to the bottom of the box that will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The box is complete with its original stop hinges which hold the lid upright. It also has its original working lock and key.
The Interior
The entire interior has been newly refurbished and looks absolutely beautiful! All of this work has been carried out by our very skilled box restorer.
There is a new removable storage tray at the top which has been beautifully French polished and stained. The tray has four storage compartments of varying shapes and sizes. The front compartment is the ideal shape and size for laying out chains and necklaces. The rear compartments are an ideal size for pieces of jewellery such as rings, brooches, earrings and pendants.
There is a large spacious single compartment beneath the storage tray. This will hold a vast amount of jewellery. It is deep enough and roomy enough to store large pieces of jewellery such as broad bangles and watches, bracelets and chunky beads.
All of the compartments, plus the inside of the lid, have new handmade padded satin panels. The interior walls of the storage tray have new handmade satin linings and the walls to the inside of the lid and lower compartment have new high-quality printed paper linings. The padded panels provide cushioned protection for jewellery.
Two shades of satin have been used for the tray - a lovely teal blue and luxurious looking gold. These colours contrast together beautifully!
The paper is a beautiful light blue shade and has very pretty white stemmed leaves.
The bottom of the storage tray has a new soft felt covering that matches that on the bottom of the box. The top has black silk ribbon pull tabs which enable the tray to be lifted out with ease.

Condition
This beautiful box is in wonderful condition. It has sound structure and only minor wear commensurate with age and honest use.
All of the veneers are present and intact.
The hinges and lock are still in good working order. The key securely locks the box.
All of the interior satin and paper linings are in beautiful unworn condition, being new.
