Superb antique jewellery cabinet made of Walnut. Beautiful glazed doors with bevelled glass. Top compartment with ring storage sections and two storage drawers. Original silk and felt linings. Working lock and key.

This is a superb high-quality antique jewellery cabinet, made during the late Victorian period. It has a lovely Walnut veneer and wonderful glazed doors. The box also boasts its original silk and felt linings. The box has a period working lock and key.
The Exterior
This box has a wonderful Walnut veneer which has beautiful figuration and a wonderful aged patina.
There are two glazed doors to the front of the box with superb high-quality bevelled glass panels. These have their original brass hinges. The lock to the box is located on the right door. This is a period replacement which dates to the same period as the box. The keyhole to the front of the door is original. Our restorer has fitted a key to the lock. There is a 'blind' (dummy) keyhole to the left door which was added for aesthetic reasons.
The lid also has its original brass hinges. These are quality stop hinges which hold the lid upright. There is a wonderful shallow domed form to the lid. It has its original polished brass plate with swing handle.
The box has a stylish plinthed base.
There is a red felt covering to the bottom of the box which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The Interior
The interior has a fixed compartment at the top which has ring storage sections on either side. It also has two drawers which can be accessed when you open the glazed doors. These have single storage compartments of different depths.
All of the compartments have their original red silk linings. The silk to the bases is lightly padded, providing cushioned protection for jewellery.
The drawers have their original brass swing handles and fitments. The fitments are beautifully shaped and have decorative pierced details. The top drawer is shallow and ideal for chains/necklaces, pendants, fine bracelets/bangles, brooches and earrings. The bottom drawer is much deeper and will hold larger pieces of jewellery, such as broad bangles, watches and chunky beads etc. The drawers have a solid Mahogany carcass and quality dovetail joints.
Note: The top drawer has a lovely old sweet perfume scent. It is likely that the original owner stored a small bottle/vial of perfume in here, over a long period of time. It is a very pleasant scent which you notice each time you open the drawer.
The inside of the lid has its original stunning silk-covered panel! This has a very luxurious look and feel. The panel has beautiful plump, deeply padded quilting, with gold silk-covered buttons.
Condition
This fabulous box is in excellent condition with very little wear to the Walnut. It has obviously been extremely well looked after by its previous owner/s.
The hinges are in good working order and the box locks securely.
The silk linings to the compartments show minor wear and light marks from age and honest use. There is minor light wear to the felt coverings of the ring storage sections, just along the edges.
The bevelled glass is in superb condition with no chips or cracks.
