A superb Italian vintage black lacquered jewellery box with a beautiful designer silver and enamel plaque. The silver is fully hallmarked.

This is a beautiful vintage Italian jewellery box with a designer sterling silver plaque to the lid. The silver is fully hallmarked.
The Exterior
This box has a glossy black lacquered finish and a designer hallmarked silver plaque to the lid. The plaque features a striking embossed clown and elephant and is finished with beautiful vitreous enamel detail. The plaque was made by the designer MIDA'S and is a generous 2.5" in diameter. It is a rare retired design which can no longer be purchased new. This plaque has previously been seen in a frame but we've seen no examples of it being set into a box.
The bottom of the box has a soft felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture and the box from becoming scratched.
Hallmark/Makers Mark/Age
The plaque has a full Italian silver hallmark. It also has a 925 sterling silver purity stamp plus the MIDA'S designer's maker mark. The hallmark includes the silversmith's registration number (31) and the two-letter abbreviation (MC) of the province in Italy where the silversmith was registered. The MC abbreviation is for the province Macerata. The hallmark loosely dates the plaque to between 1968 and the present year. The box dates to the 1980s.
The Interior
The base of the interior has a soft beige felt lining.
Condition
This beautiful box is in excellent condition. There are no scratches to either the silver or lacquered finish.
The interior felt lining is in excellent unworn clean condition.
