A beautiful 1930s Art Deco Italian jewellery box with an abundance of superb inlaid decoration. Lovely silk linings to the interior compartment. In completely original condition.

This is a beautiful Italian 1930s Art Deco jewellery box. It has an abundance of superb inlaid decoration and is in excellent completely original condition. The lid is made of solid Walnut and the body is beautifully veneered with Walnut.
About The Inlay
The lid has beautiful micro mosaic inlay, known as 'mosaic tessellated inlay'. It is made up of 1000s of tiny pieces of wood, painstakingly put together to form intricate mosaic designs. The mosaic inlay on this box has a wonderful tapestry like appearance.
There is superb geometric inlay to the front, rear and sides of the box. That to the front has a chequered design with an abstract 'Sunburst' motif in the centre. The Sunburst motif was extremely popular throughout the 1920s/30s Deco period. There is further chequered inlay to the top of both sides with square bands of Walnut veneer beneath.
The Design Of The Box
The box has a beautiful 'flat' streamlined design with curved sides. It stands slightly raised on its original small bun feet. The box also has its original hinges.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment which is complete with its original burgundy silk linings. The base panel has a beautiful plump quilted design.
Condition
This wonderful box is in excellent condition for its 95 years of age. It is structurally sound and has no nasty splits or cracks. There is minor light age related wear to the veneer.
The interior linings are neatly fitted and have no splits. Being completely original, they do have some age related marks and wear. This is as you'd expect from a genuine old box which has been loved and used.
There are two small pins missing from the right hinge, however this does not affect its function.
The box may not make a suitable gift for those who prefer a perfect interior. It will be most suited to those who love the charm of a genuine old box with signs of use.
