A superb high-quality antique marquetry inlaid jewellery box attributed to the renowned box and furniture maker, William Norrie. In excellent condition!

This is a superb high-quality antique jewellery box, attributed to the renowned box and furniture maker, William Norrie. It is made of timbers native to New Zealand which are a particular feature of Norrie's craftmanship. It also features a hand pencilled drawing on the base which is another charateristic Norrie trademark. The drawing is a sketch of the inlaid design on the lid and it details the native New Zealand timbers that have been used.
The Exterior
This fabulous box has a beautiful high-quality marquetry inlaid feature, consiting of several varieties of woods that are native to New Zealand. The inlay has been beautifully positioned to create a decorative geometric eight pointed star.
The box has its original hinges which are still in very good working order.
The Interior
The interior compartment has soft plush deep purple/blue felt linings. These appear to be a later addition to the box.
Condition
This box is still in excellent condition despite its 120/130 years of age. This is testament to how very well made the box is.
All of the inlay is present and secure. Each piece is beautifully flush against the next.
There is a very slight 'smile' on the left side of the box, the lid not closing completely flush in this region. This is barely noticeable.
There is minor wear to the interior linings.
