Superb vintage musical Black Forest jewellery box from Grindelwald in Switzerland. Circa 1950s. Beautiful high relief carving to the lid and original linings to the interior. Working lock and key.

This is a superb vintage Black Forest jewellery box, originating from Grindelwald in Switzerland. It dates to the 1950s and is a beautiful musical box that plays 'Nach Regen scheint die Sonne' (After the Rain Comes the Sun). The interior has its original linings and the box has its original working lock and key.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid wood and is beautifully shaped with its lovely flowing curves. There is a superb large, high relief carving of a beautiful Edelweiss flower to the lid, surrounded by hand-carved leaves. Further hand-carved leaves decorate the front and sides of the box.
The box is complete with its original 'stop' hinges that hold the lid upright, plus its original working lock and key. It stands raised on its original beautifully turned hardwood feet.
The bottom of the box has retained its original song title/location label.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment. This, as well as the inside of the lid, are complete with their original decorative linings. There are lightly padded satin panels to the base of the compartment and inside of the lid, plus silk linings to the walls. The panels are beautifully finished with silk buttoning and silk stitching detail. The stitching has created a multi diamond pattern that gives the panels a beautiful quilted effect. The satin is a lovely powder pink shade and the silk is a slightly darker shade. This contrasts nicely against the lighter satin.
The Musical Movement
The movement plays 'Nach Regen scheint die Sonne' (After the Rain Comes the Sun). This comes from a 1949 West German comedy film that was directed by Erich Kober and starred Sonja Zieman.
The movement is in good working order, playing the tune at its correct tempo.
The movement has a rare and unusual 'delayed brake' mechanism. This delayed brake is a superb feature that causes the tune to play from the very beginning, every time the lid is opened. It also allows the tune to keep playing to its end, even when the lid is closed. The delayed brake keeps operating until the box needs rewinding.
Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Four turns of the key are sufficient to fully wind up the movement.
Notes On Vintage Musical Movements
Care should be taken not to overwind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning. We are not responsible for movements that are overwound or for movements that deteriorate from further age and use once boxes are purchased.

We would like to make you aware that vintage locks can occasionally malfunction. They are already very old and so will naturally have some wear from age and use. We are not responsible for locks that malfunction from further age and use once boxes are purchased. Please ensure the lock is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting the box.

Condition
This wonderful old box is still in excellent condition, despite its 70 plus years of age. It is structurally sound and its large carving is still intact.
The interior satin panels and silk linings are still in remarkably good condition! They are still neatly fitted and have no splits or fraying. They are still predominantly clean apart from a few light stains that are not very noticeable. It is evident that the interior has seen very little use.
The hinges are still in good working order and the box locks securely.
The exterior has some minor light wear, commensurate with age and honest use. None of this spoils the box's beautiful appearance.
There is some wear/light scratches to the bottom of the box, again commensurate with age and honest use.
