Superb antique Swiss musical jewellery box with a beautiful sounding rare Swiss 2 Airs musical cylinder. The box has beautiful hand-painted detail and new high-quality velvet and paper linings.

This is a fabulous antique Swiss musical jewellery box. It was made in Switzerland in the 1920s and has a beautiful sounding 2 Airs (2 tunes) musical cylinder. Details of this can be viewed below.
The Exterior
This box is made of solid wood that has a lovely walnut coloured stain. It has a very stylish 'wardrobe' design with beautiful flowing curves.
The box has beautiful doors to the front and a jewellery storage drawer beneath these on the left. There is a further faux drawer to the right which is where the musical cylinder is concealed.
The doors and drawers have pretty hand-painted flowers which include dark red Roses, blue Forget-Me-Nots and yellow Pansies.
The doors are complete with their original hinges and the right one has its original brass button catch. This is a high-quality precision button catch with a spring mechanism. It automatically presses in when you close the right door and automatically pops back up when you open the door.
The bottom of the box has its original musical cylinder's label. It is also stamped SWITZERLAND.
The Interior
The doors open up to reveal the beautiful interior. This has a rotating gold metal disc that turns when the musical cylinder is in operation. It also has its three original fitted mirror panels. The original ballerina was lost and we've replaced this with a beautiful new ballerina. She has a lovely hand-painted bodice/hand-painted details and a crisp white satin skirt. The mirrors have been framed with new beautiful pink silk trim that has a lovely barley twist design. This new trim has replaced the original which was disintegrating and coming away.
The inside of the doors have new high-quality paper linings which have a beautiful floral print. The walls of the storage drawer are lined with the same and a new plush velvet panel has been added to the base of this.
The New Velvet Panel and Paper Linings
These are completely handmade/cut to size, in order to fit the drawer and doors perfectly.
The velvet panel is a beautiful wine shade and has been padded to provide cushioned protection for jewellery. The wine shade was chosen to complement the beautiful hand-painted Roses. The floral printed paper was also chosen to complement the hand-painted flowers.

The Musical Cylinder
This box has a rare high-quality Swiss 2 Airs musical cylinder. This plays two different tunes, 'La Veuve Joyeuse' (The Merry Widow) and 'Reve de Valse' (Waltz Dream).
The Merry Widow is a Viennese operetta by the Hungarian composer Franz Lehar. It was composed in 1905.
The cylinder is in excellent working order. The music is beautiful and gives off a wonderful 'donging' organ-like sound effect in the background.
Operating The Musical Cylinder
The cylinder is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Four turns of the key are sufficient to fully wind up the cylinder and the music plays when the right door is opened. The music stops as it should, when the right door is closed or when the cylinder has fully unwound.
Notes On Antique Musical Cylinders
Care should be taken not to overwind the cylinder. Over winding will result in the cylinder malfunctioning. We are not responsible for cylinders that are overwound or which deteriorate from further age and use, once boxes are purchased.
Please check that the cylinder is still working as soon as you receive your box. It will be checked again prior to posting.

Condition
This lovely box is excellent condition for its age. It has sound structure and only minor wear that is commensurate with age and honest use. The majority of this wear is on the back of the box and will not be seen when the front is on display.
There is some minor light wear to the base panel of the interior.
The padded velvet panel, printed paper linings and pink silk twist trim, are all in immaculate condition, being new.
The musical cylinder is still in excellent working order, as are the doors hinges.
The original fitted mirrors have some blemishes, due to minor age-related deterioration on their backs. The fronts of the mirrors themselves are smooth and the mirrors are still predominantly clear. Please see the photos provided.
