A set of three beautiful marquetry inlaid boxes from Sorrento in Southern Italy. Lovely South American Afata wood veneer and Central/South American Leopardwood inlay.

Three lovely marquetry inlaid jewellery boxes from Sorrento in Southern Italy. All three boxes have the same design and are being sold together as a set. They are vintage jewellery boxes dating to the 1970s/80s and all three are in very good condition.
The Exteriors
These decorative boxes are beautifully finished with South American Afata wood veneer. The lids all have beautiful marquetry inlay which features mythical creatures and scrolling vines with flowers. The darker wood inlay is beautiful Leopardwood which comes from Central and South America. This has very distinctive flecking and it gives off a beautiful shimmer. The lighter inlay is Satinwood.
There is lovely inlaid Satinwood stringing to the bodies of the boxes and a narrow frame of inlaid Satinwood surrounding the veneer on the lids.
All of the boxes have a beautiful high polished and varnished finish. This has given them a gorgeous glossy shine and a tactile smoothness.
The lids have a lovely lightly domed form and each box has its original piano hinge.
The carcasses of the boxes are made of solid Pine wood.
These lovely boxes can be nested together, one inside the other, until the compartments are filled. As empty nesting boxes, they make a beautiful and interesting display piece.
This set may have originally comprised of four boxes, with another sized box for the smallest one to sit snuggly in. Please see the photos provided.
These boxes can be given as one individual gift or separated and used for two or three gifts. This would be particularly nice for two or three members of the same family or for a group of connected friends, who can talk about their boxes as the years pass by. A special photo or item, relatable to all recipients, could perhaps be added to each box.
Note
The veneer on the largest box has a lighter colour.
The Interiors
Each box has a single storage compartment.
The interiors have been left unlined which allows you to see the beautiful grain within the Pine wood.
The compartments plus the inside of the lid have a glossy varnished finish.
Condition
All of these boxes have sound structure and are in very good condition.
All of the veneers and inlays are present and secure.
All of the hinges are still in very good working order.

Please note that we cannot deliver to international PO boxes as we use a secure insured postal service that requires a signature.
