Beautiful vintage Italian jewellery box from Sorrento. Circa 1970s/1980s. Beautifully veneered and inlaid. Beautiful new linings to the interior.

This is a beautiful vintage inlaid Italian box that was made in the beautiful coastal town Sorrento. It was originally designed for storing pencils but we have lovingly converted it into a jewellery box. Further details of the conversion are below.
This box with its beautifully inlaid subject matter and history would make an especially thoughtful gift for an author, poet, scriptwriter or anyone with a keen interest in literature etc.
The Exterior
This box has a lovely dark wood veneer. The veneer has been beautifully polished and lacquered and has a glossy sheen and tactile smoothness.
There is beautiful inlaid decoration to the lid. This features a pencil and a pretty sprig of leaves. All of the inlay is set beautifully flush into the veneer.
The edges of the lid have a glossy black enamelled finish and the bottom of the box has lovely Satinwood veneer.
The box has its original polished gold metal piano hinge.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment which was originally unlined. We have added beautiful linings to the compartment so that the box can now be used for storing jewellery.
The inside of the lid has beautiful Mahogany veneer and the top edges of the compartment have Satinwood veneer. All of this veneer has been polished and lacquered and has the same smooth glossy finish as the veneer on the exterior.
The Linings
There is a new pink brushed cotton panel in the base of the compartment. This is nicely padded, providing cushioned protection for jewellery.
The interior walls have new high-quality patterned paper linings. These are a beautiful peachy/pink shade with very pretty blue-grey/coral/purple flowers and leaves.
All of the lining work has been carried out by ourselves.
Date
Circa 1970s/1980s.
Condition
This box is in very good vintage condition. It has sound structure and only minor light wear, commensurate with age and use.
The lacquer has a few watermark like blemishes which are only visible under bright lighting. There is a tiny spot of lacquer missing on the lid which again is barely noticeable. These minor flaws occurred during the box's manufacture and are not as a result of any damage.
All of the inlay is present and intact.
The interior's new paper linings and padded panel are in immaculate condition, being new.
The hinge is still securely seated.
