Beautiful vintage Italian musical jewellery box from Sorrento in Southern Italy. Stunning marquetry inlay all over and original plush red velvet linings to the interior. The bases of each compartment have new red padded satin panels. Complete with original working lock and key.

This is a beautiful vintage musical jewellery box. It was made in Sorrento, Italy and it dates to the 1960s. The interior has been partially refurbished and has a mix of both new and original linings.
The Exterior
This box is primarily made of natural Mahogany. It has stunning marquetry inlay on the lid and all four sides. The inlay consists of several varieties of wood and has a beautiful foliate design. The foliate inlay to the lid is beautifully surrounded by an inlaid frame.
All of the wood has a high polished finish and a glossy protective varnish.
The box stands slightly raised on its original block feet and the lid has its original piano hinge.
The box has its original lock which is complete with its original attractively shaped key.
The Interior
The interior has two compartments at the top plus two further compartments beneath. The musical movement is concealed within a casing between the lower compartments. The top compartments swing open to the side and are also complete with their original hinges.
The bases of all four compartments have beautiful new padded red satin panels. These provide cushioned protection for jewellery. The interior walls and the musical movement's casing have their original plush red velvet linings.
The box's original ballerina stands on the movement's casing. She twirls around and moves up and down when the movement is in operation.
The inside of the lid has its original inset mirror which is surrounded by its original red silk cord trim.
The Musical Movement
The box has a quality musical movement which is in good working order. The movement is operated via the winding key on the bottom of the box. Five turns of the key are sufficient to fully wind up the movement. The music stops as it should, when the lid is closed or when the movement has fully unwound.

Notes About Vintage Locks And Musical Movements
We would like to make you aware that vintage locks and movements can occasionally malfunction. They are already old and so will naturally have some wear from age and use.
Care should be taken not to overwind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning.
We are not responsible for locks and movements that malfunction from further age and use, once boxes are purchased. Neither are we responsible for movements that may be overwound by the new owner of the box.
Please ensure the lock and movement are still working as soon as you receive your box. They will be checked again before the box is dispatched.

Condition
This beautiful box is in very good condition. It has sound structure and only minor light age-related wear.
All of the inlay is present and intact.
The interior velvet linings are still clean, neatly fitted and have no splits or fraying. The new padded satin panels are in immaculate unworn condition.
The box still locks securely.

There is a 1.5cm depth between the ledge of the casing and top compartments. Some small pieces of jewellery may be placed upon the ledge if desired.
