Lovely high quality Victorian box with a black leather finish. The interior has silk lined specialised compartments for Gold, Silver and Notes. The box is complete with its original working lock and key.

This is a beautiful quality antique box for the storage of both jewellery and bank/memo notes. It has a black leather finish and specialised compartments for Silver, Gold and Notes.
The Exterior
This box has a deep black leather covering which has been newly refinished with satin lacquer.
There is decorative embossed detail to the lid, and the lid has its original hinged chrome handle and fitments. The front of the box has its original chrome keyhole escutcheon which compliments the handle.
The box is complete with its original chrome stop hinges which hold the lid upright. It also has its original working chrome lock and period key. The lock is stamped SECURE LOCK.
The box has a lovely drop-down front and this is where the lock is located.
The Interior
The interior has two compartments at the top which swing open to the side. These are two of the specialised compartments mentioned earlier. The lids of these have 'Gold' and 'Silver' embossed upon them in fancy script. The lettering is beautifully highlighted with gold paint. The lids have pull tabs which enable you to lift them up with ease.
There is a further larger single compartment beneath the top two compartments.
All three compartments have their original burgundy padded silk panels.
The inside of the lid has a specialised compartment for bank/memo notes. This could also be used to store treasured photos or letters. The front of this has 'Notes' stamped upon it in gold fancy script. The front of the compartment and the wall behind it are lined with burgundy silk. The inside of the drop-down front is lined with the same.
All of the interior is finished with leather.
The beautifully titled compartments are a lovely feature of the box and the top 'swing out' compartments are rarely found on antique boxes.
Age
Late Victorian, Circa 1890/1900.
Condition
This box is in very good condition for its age. It has sound structure and only minor light wear commensurate with age and honest use.
There is slight rocking to the hinge of the right compartment but it is still securely fixed.
