Beautiful vintage musical jewellery box playing 'Love Story'. Lovely marble effect finish and gold painted decoration. Three lined storage drawers with 'antiqued' metal handles.

This is a vintage wooden musical jewellery box, playing 'Love Story'. It is beautifully decorated and has 3 storage drawers. It dates to the 1970s.
The Exterior
The exterior has a beautiful marble effect finish. The top of the box and front of the drawers have decorative painted scrolls and leaves. There is also gold detail around the base of the box. The drawers have ornate 'antiqued' metal handles. These are in the form of leaves and berries. The wood on either side of the drawers has a carved crosshatch design.
The lid and base have a beautiful curved shape and the box stands raised on nicely turned bun feet. New felt pads have been added to the feet to protect the surfaces of furniture.
The box was made in Japan and has a Japanese 'Toyo' musical movement.
The Interior
The box has 3 lovely storage drawers with their original ribbed cord linings. The linings have a nice burnt orange colour and a soft brushed velvety texture.
The Musical Movement
The movement plays the beautiful tune 'Love Story', taken from the 1970s film with the same title. The musical score for Love Story was written by Francis Lai and its original lyrics were by Carl Sigman. The song has been recorded/covered by Henry Mancini, Andy Williams, Johnny Mathis, Shirley Bassey and Tony Bennett.
The movement is in good working order. The music stops as it should, when the movement has unwound or when the bottom drawer is closed.
Operating The Musical Movement
The movement is operated via a winding key on the back of the box. Five turns of the key are required to fully wind the movement. The music begins playing when the bottom drawer is pulled forward.

We would like to make you aware that vintage movements can occasionally malfunction. They are already old and will naturally have some wear from age and prior use.
Care should be taken not to overwind the movement. Over winding will result in the movement malfunctioning. We are not responsible for movements that are overwound. Neither are we responsible for movements which deteriorate from further age and use once boxes are purchased.
Please check the movement is operating correctly as soon as you receive the box. It will be checked again prior to shipping.

This beautiful box is in wonderful condition. It has sound structure and very little wear.
The interior linings are clean and neatly fitted. They have no splits or fraying.
