This is a beautiful Mahogany jewellery box with a hallmarked sterling silver handle.
The Exterior
This box has a beautiful Mahogany veneer which has a lovely rich colour and patina. The edges of the box are beautifully moulded and have a darker wood veneer.
There is a fabulous solid silver handle on the lid which has a full London assay office hallmark. The date stamp on the hallmark is for the millennium year 2000. The box will most likely date to this year.
The silver has a glossy, high polished finish.
The Interior
The interior has a single storage compartment which has its original green felt lining to the base.
Condition
This box is in very good condition. It is structurally sound and has only minor light age-related surface wear.
There is a small area of wear to the veneer on the front right corner of the lid. This is not very noticeable.
