Antique 19th century Mahogany jewellery casket.
This is a beautiful Georgian jewellery casket, dating to the early 19th century. It is made of solid Mahogany wood and has a beautiful Rosewood veneer.
There is a raised Mahogany panel to the lid with a solid brass swing handle. The keyhole has an inlaid boxwood escutcheon which contrasts beautifully against the Rosewood.
The interior has been beautifully refurbished by our wonderful skilled box restorer. It has two new storage trays which are beautifully French polished and stained. Both have padded, cream satin panels, and 'heritage cream' paper linings. Their bases have plum coloured paper coverings, and the top tray has the addition of silk pull tabs.
There is a large compartment beneath the trays which has also been refurbished. This as well as the inside of the lid, have new satin panels and paper linings to match those in the trays.
The casket is complete with its original key, brass lock, and brass stop hinges. It has lovely squat bun feet which are also original.

History
This wonderful casket started life as a very expensive tea caddy. It is a wonderful piece of social history, now lovingly restored and converted into a glorious jewellery casket!
Condition
This beautiful casket is in excellent condition. It is structurally sound, solid and robust. There is some minor light age-related wear as you'd expect on a casket which is 200 plus years old.

Large Base Compartment:
15.5 by 9.8cm with a 3cm depth.
Top Tray:
Each compartment is 8.5 by 4.5cm with a 1.4cm depth.
2nd Tray:
Both compartments are 8.5 by 7.5cm with a 1.4cm depth.
