Superb antique jewellery casket with a newly refurbished satin lined interior. Beautiful Rosewood veneer and superb brass decoration. Eye catching sarcophagus shape. Working lock and key.

This is a stunning antique jewellery casket which dates back to the Regency period. It has a partially renovated exterior and a beautiful newly refurbished interior.
The Exterior
This casket has a beautiful Rosewood veneer and a stylish sarcophagus shape. It also has a lovely plinth base with beautifully moulded edges.
There is superb inlaid brass decoration to the front of the casket and a kite-shaped inlaid bone escutcheon to the keyhole. The brass work features scrolling leafy vines. It is beautifully polished and set flush within the veneer.
There is inlaid brass stringing to the plinth of the casket which compliments the main brass decoration.
The casket has replacement cast brass feet which are from the Regency period. Our restorer has added these as the original feet were missing.
The casket has its original brass 'stop' hinges which hold the lid upright. It also has its original working lock and key.
The Interior
The interior compartment has been fully refurbished. It has a new padded satin panel in its base and new satin linings to the walls. The satin is a beautiful deep crimson shade of red. The compartment is fairly large and deep, roomy enough to hold large pieces of jewellery such as bangles, watches and beads.
The inside of the lid has its original beautiful Rosewood panel.
Age
Circa 1815/1820.
Condition
This casket is in extremely good condition despite its 200 years of age. It is a solid weighty casket and it is structurally sound.
The Rosewood veneer is still lovely overall with only minor light age-related wear.
All of the brass decoration is still present and securely inlaid.
The interior satin, being new, is in pristine clean unworn condition.
There is a small thin piece of moulding missing to the base of the left rear corner. This has been smoothed over and stained. This flaw is at the bottom and rear and hence is not overly noticeable.
There is slight movement to the front left foot but it is still secure.
The lock and hinges are still in good working order.
