Beautiful antique Rosewood jewellery box with a newly refurbished satin lined interior. Lovely deep colour and superb figuration to the Rosewood. Original working lock and key. Victorian, circa 1880.

This is a beautiful antique Rosewood jewellery box with a newly refurbished satin-lined interior. It dates to the Victorian period, circa 1880.
The Exterior
This box has a lovely Rosewood veneer which has a beautiful deep colour and superb figuration.
There is a small inlaid Mother of Pearl cartouche on the lid and a complimentary inlaid Mother of Pearl escutcheon to the keyhole.
The box is complete with its original brass stop hinges which hold the lid upright. It is also complete with its original working brass lock and period key.
The bottom of the box has a new felt covering which will protect the surfaces of furniture.
The Interior
The interior has been newly refurbished by our skilled box restorer. The base of the compartment and the inside of the lid have new padded blue satin panels. The walls have new quality patterned paper linings. The paper is pale blue with a white floral pattern. The satin panel inside the lid has been beautifully finished with blue and white silk cord trim. This was salvaged from the old linings and is a beautiful original feature of the interior.

Condition
This wonderful old box is in excellent condition. It is structurally sound and has no splits. There is minor wear and a few light surface scratches which are not very visible. The wear is commensurate with age and honest use.
The interior linings, being new, are in excellent unworn clean condition.
The hinges are still in perfect working order and the box locks securely with its key.
