Beautiful 1930s Art Deco jewellery box, made of solid Olivewood and Burr Walnut. Beautiful large inlaid and hand-painted scene on the lid. Original satin and velvet to the interior.

This is a beautiful Art Deco jewellery box, dating to the 1930s. It is in complete original condition.
The Exterior
This box has a stylish flat streamlined form which was popular throughout the Art Deco period. It has beautiful raised sides with curved wooden handles and its lid has a lightly domed shape.
The box is predominantly made of solid Olivewood. Its sides are made of solid Burr Walnut which has beautiful figuration. Its curved handles have a lovely dark stain which has given them an ebonised appearance.
The lid has a stunning large inlaid scene of an elegant lady's hand. Her hand features a ribbon wrapped around her wrist and 3 beautiful rings on her fingers. She is holding a string of pearls and there is a lovely leafy sprig above her hand. The ribbon, rings and sprig have been beautifully hand-painted. There is a stylish inlaid frame around the scene.
The box is complete with its original piano stop hinge which holds the lid upright. It stands slightly raised on its original block feet.
The box has its original lock but no key.
The Interior
The interior has a single wide storage compartment. This has its original quilted satin panel and its original satin linings to the walls.
The inside of the lid has an inset velvet panel surrounded by an inlaid Satinwood frame. These too are original.
Condition
This wonderful old box is in original condition throughout. It is completely untouched with no restoration or refurbishment. As such, there is some wear from age and use. The box is weighty and structurally sound.
The interior velvet and satin, being so old, has some wear as we'd expect. There are stains on the satin which we have not attempted to remove, as cleaning it could cause discolouration and damage. It is much better left as it is with its natural aged charm.
All of the inlay is present and intact and the colours of the paint are still quite bright.
There is one crack in the wood on the bottom of the box which hasn't affected its sound structure in any way. You will not see this unless you turn the box over.
The hinge is still in very good working order and the feet are securely attached.
