Beautiful Victorian jewellery box, made of solid Walnut and with its original working lock and key.
This is a beautiful antique solid walnut jewellery box, dating to 1880/1890. It is complete with its working lock and key.
The Exterior
The exterior has been beautifully shaped to create a decorative curved design. There is a Mother of Pearl floral motif on the lid which is nicely carved and engraved.
The walnut has been beautifully polished and has a wonderful tactile smoothness. It has a beautiful variation of colour as can be seen from the bands that run across the front and back of the box.
The bottom of the box has its original hessian covering. This will prevent the surfaces of your furniture from being scratched.
The Interior
The interior has a single compartment. This as well as the inside of the lid are complete with their original violet velvet linings.
The box is complete with its original brass hinges, and its original brass lock and key.
Age
Late Victorian. 1880/1890.
Condition
This fabulous box is in excellent condition! It is structurally sound and has no damage whatsoever. The velvet linings and hessian cover to the base are still complete and in superb condition!
There are a few minor light marks to the walnut which are barely visible.
The Mother of Pearl motif is in perfect condition and securely fixed with its original rounded pins.
Note
The lid is quite heavy and should be positioned further forward than upright to prevent the box from tipping backwards. You will only need to do this when the box is empty. Once the box is filled with a good amount of jewellery the base will be weightier and the box won't tip back.
